The Civic Integration Examination consists of two parts:
- Knowledge of Dutch society
- Dutch language skills.
You will do the examination via a telephone, which is in direct connection to a speaking computer. You will hear the questions of the computer through headphones.
You will have to respond via a microphone connected to the headphones. You will not be able to ask the computer any questions. If you have any questions, these must be asked before the examination starts. Once the examination has started, you will not be able to ask any more questions.
Your answers will be assessed automatically by a speech computer.
The component Knowledge of Dutch Society will consist of a film and 30 questions. The film will be about the Netherlands. You will watch the film at home. You can choose from a number of different languages.
You will be asked questions about the film. All questions and answers will be in Dutch.
You can study all of the questions and answers at home. During the examination at the embassy, you will be asked to answer 30 questions. You will be given a booklet with pictures to do this. Each question corresponds to one specific photo.
You will hear the questions one by one through the telephone. You will give your answers via the telephone. Please note: you will have to turn the pages of the album yourself.
The component Dutch language skills tests whether you have attained a basic level of Dutch. The examination will only test speech and listening skills. You will not need to be able to read or write. This component consists of the following five parts, each part with four exercises:
- repeating sentences
- answering short questions
- indicating opposites
- repeating sentences
- repeating two different short stories.
Each part will start with an instruction in the Dutch language. For the first three parts the computer will also give an example.
You will hear all of the exercises one by one through the telephone. You will also answer through the telephone. Your answers will be assessed automatically by the speech computer.
